Before reading further, please note the following:
Most children are dry by night by 3 years of age
The maximum age for which to wait till the child is dry by 5 years
Avoid bottle-feeding
Keep a dim light switched on all night in the washroom for good visibility at night and to alleviate fear of the dark in your child and encourage your child to use the washroom without being accompanied
Ensure that your child’s bedroom is comfortably cool but not excessively cold and that your child is clothed suitably for the ambient temperature of the bedroom; excessively cold air will reduce imperceptible sweating, increase urine formation and increase thirst and night-time water consumption
Other Measures
Ensure that your child voids urine just before going to bed / 2 hours after the last consumption of meal / water at night, whichever is later
If your child feels thirsty at night and needs to drink water, especially in large quantity, then make sure your child uses the washroom at that time and if possible, again 2 hours later
If these measures don’t work, use an alarm system as advised
If even this doesn’t work, the bedwetting may need some lab tests, radiologic tests and appropriate medical treatment
